And next:

Snug Fytt!

What role do you play in the Mechanicals?

I be the eye-candy, bless the mark!  Each traveling troupe needs someone with good looks and a fully-some figure to draw in the audience. Without me, the Mechanicals are just another homely rag-tag group of actors!

What is your occupation outside of the Mechanicals?

I possess the highly valued talent of joining...wood.  It doth to be a quite lucrative profession to join...wood.

Who inspires me in performance?

Before we begin each performance, I make a point of searching the patrons in the playspace for my muse.  Most often my muse doth to be a gentleman of good standing, good calf and excellent coinage.

The woman behind the womadness:

Jill Wentzel

How did I get involved with the MM?

In 2002, after auditions, Richard and I were talking about his audition monologue, the Thisby monologue from Midsummer’s if I remember correctly, and how he wanted to portray Francis Flute that season.  That was such a cool idea that I suggested that he talk to the directors about having some additional people help out and be the other members of the Mechanicals.  Basically, Richard had a good idea, and I jumped on his bandwagon!

What is my performance background?

I began my lofty career in the theater as the Littlest Billy Goat Gruff and played such exciting roles as Narrator, Japanese mother, and  Refrigerator door.  I was actively involved in community and school theater in my hometown and was a charter member of Shippensburg University’s only improvisational theater company “Game On: Improv!”  My first official Shakespearean role was that of Brother John in “Romeo and Juliet.”  Recently, I acted with Dan Wentzel in a production of “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare: Abridged” in Narberth, PA.  I am also a member of the “Seat of Our Pants” theater company which just performed “The Merry Wives of Windsor.”  I can also be seen on the grounds of the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire where I have been an actor since 1999 and a writer and director since 2003.

Comedic inspiration:

My father was the king of punsters and bad jokes.  I would have to say that he was my earliest comic inspiration. I remember realizing that the joke could be horrible, but with the right delivery almost every joke could be funny (almost...even my dad had a few bombs!).  Since I have been working with the Mechanicals, each of them have taught me new and creative ways to be funny!  They inspire me every time we get together!

How long have I been a member?

I have been a member since 2002, when the Mechanicals were born!  That makes me as old (in Mechanical years) as Richard!  ACK!

Favorite Mechanical Memory:

There are so many!  I guess that my favorite memory would have to be the day that we took “Romeo and Juliet” out to the street instead of Bacchus’s garden.  I’ve also enjoyed each and every “final” performance that the Mechanicals have had!
