Who is Nick
Bottom?

Nick is an Actor. Notice the pretentious capitalized “A.” Only someone like Nick Bottom would use the
pretentious “A,” so that pretty well sums him up. Nick spends most of his time working on his crAft (note he still uses the “A”) or dealing with his
“fans.” If he ever finds those fans, I’m
sure they will be thrilled to finally meet him.
Nick’s claim to fame is that he learned to play claves at Julliard. Actually, he found two sticks in Julie’s
yard, but let him dream. His other claim
to fame was that one time Queen Titania turned his
head into a donkey’s head. He’s been a
jack-ass ever since.
Nick believes he is the true
driving force behind the Mechanicals.
While he respects Thomas’s directing, deep down
he would rather direct himself. He finds
himself baffled at the inclusion of the two women in the group. Snug, apparently, doesn’t find him
fascinating like she should, and Robin won’t let the whole “donkey” thing go,
allowing her to see his true genius.
Rather he attributes their blindness to the “frivolities of the fairer
sex,” of which he has no time for, since he must keep working on his Art.
Who is Dan Wentzel?
Dan joined the Mechanicals when he decided he loved
someone named “Jill” so much that he would don donkey ears just for her. Despite constant gagging at that thought, he
has brought much more useful ears to the company: his ear for music. Using an almost inexhaustible knowledge of
sea-shanties, Dan started the Mechanicals down the road of parody songs, and
they haven’t looked back since. When not
dressed like a large blueberry, Nick spends his time writing. Sometimes creatively,
sometimes corporately, but always “better than that git
Shakespeare.”
